Aarhus Airport Planning
Aarhus Airport is a regional airport north of Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. The airport serves as a critical connection to the capital city at Copenhagen with several flights back and forth per day. In addition, the airport services routes to destinations within Europe and beyond in their charter segment.
ZESO Architects initially became involved in architectural consulting for Aarhus Airport through a workshop the owner held to review expansion plans for new gates and border control facilities planned for the existing terminal. Zeso was later invited to provide parallel consulting for planning work executed by Artelia for future expansion of the airport.
ZESO developed several scenarios for expanding the existing passenger terminal and baggage facilities which visualized possibilities for the owner. The work involved high level dimensioning and projections of future space requirements which was developed in close collaboration with the airport’s route developer and aviation planning engineers from Artelia. This work was illustrated by a series of plan and flow diagrams.
After initially focusing on the passenger terminal and baggage facilities, ZESO was asked to develop options for expanded service areas both east and west of the terminal complex. This included new facilities and relocation of existing facilities from other areas of the airport.
