VAGAR AIRPORT PLANNING

The planning work for Vágar Airport focused on the expansion of the main international gateway to the Faroe Islands, developed in collaboration with COWI.

The scope included the development of multiple expansion scenarios for the existing passenger terminal as part of a new masterplan in 2019. The selected proposal was further refined and visualised to support decision-making on the airport’s future development.

In 2020, the work continued with a detailed building programme for the terminal expansion and adjacent service facilities. This defined spatial requirements, functional relationships, and operational needs, based on workshops with key stakeholders.

The work comprised spatial analysis, programming, and diagrammatic and visual material developed in coordination with COWI’s wider planning of airside and landside infrastructure.

ZESO Architects has executed a series of aviation planning, analysis, and visualization projects since the the office’s aviation activities began in 2013. These projects have been executed for Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Vagar Airport (FAE), Sønderborg Airport (SGD), Sofia Airport (SOF) and Aarhus Airport (AAR). Due to the sensitive nature of the material, it is not possible to share details of the individual projects but as this work is a cornerstone of our aviation consulting it is listed here in brief descriptions.
