SØNDERBORG AIRPORT PLANNING

The scenario development for Sønderborg Airport focused on a new passenger terminal adjacent to the existing facility, in collaboration with COWI.

The scope addressed the design of an efficient terminal layout tailored to a high proportion of day-return passengers, with integration of the cultural and landscape context of Sønderjylland.

Work included plan and section diagrams as well as visualisations of interior spatial qualities and the terminal’s relationship to its surrounding landscape.

The development was coordinated with parallel studies for apron expansion, as well as new landside access and parking infrastructure.

The rich cultural heritage of the region was incorporated into the very first sketches to ensure that it would be a worthy gateway to and from Sønderjylland.

ZESO Architects has executed a series of aviation planning, analysis, and visualization projects since the the office’s aviation activities began in 2013. These projects have been executed for Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Vagar Airport (FAE), Sønderborg Airport (SGD), Sofia Airport (SOF) and Aarhus Airport (AAR). Due to the sensitive nature of the material, it is not possible to share details of the individual projects but as this work is a cornerstone of our aviation consulting it is listed here in brief descriptions.
