13. February / Dementia friendly housing in Varde Municipality
On Wednesday, February 1, ZESO Architects was in Varde to present our work with dementia-friendly housing in the municipality.
It was an inspiring day, with the participation of nursing home leaders, dementia-coordinators, consultants and municipal politicians.
There was a good dialogue across the board and a common understanding was reached, which is important when making decisions in this area in the future.
Back in December, ZESO Architects was in charge of the “Dementia Alliance” and our “Dementia Housing Travel Team” visited 9 of the municipality’s care centers, observing and talking with nursing homes and staff. Subsequently, we have worked with each care center and have made a report with recommendations and inspiration to make it more dementia-friendly.
There is a focus on four themes:
The residence itself, access hallways, communal facilities and outdoor areas.
The result is a comprehensive and inspiring catalogue of opportunities for the municipality to consider!
In October 2016 the team were in the municipality of Guldborgsund and throughout March will be helping Horsens Municipality compile a similar report.
